An excerpt from Denver's "5280" magazine where The Arbor House Inn was part of a mountain getaways feature in the November 2009 issue.
"Settled on 400 feet of riverfront along the South Fork of the Rio Grande, the Arbor House looks and feels more like home than your typical bed-and-breakfast: No tchotchkes clutter the space, comfortable furniture replaces stiff antiques, and the innkeepers adhere to a we're-here-if-you-need-us philosophy that eliminates the feeling that you're living in their home. All of that allows guests to simply enjoy the large river-adjacent patio and hot tub, the snug guestrooms, and the sublime breakfasts of French toast, crêpes, freshly baked breads, breakfast tostadas with salsa, or Rocky Mountain scrambled eggs."
An excerpt from travel writer Maribeth Clemente's journey to Wolf Creek.
"… We were amazed to find such a polished establishment in the middle-of-nowhere-town of South Fork. Plush robes, candles in our room, well-stocked coffee and tea stations both in our room and in the inn’s dining room, candles at breakfast—there isn’t a detail passed over in this delightful inn. A sumptuous breakfast, overlooking a bucolic river scene, completes the romantic tableau that innkeepers Keith and Laurie Bratton have created in this little haven of peace in southwestern Colorado. Indeed these fine hosts are as gracious as their surrounding …
…Our enthusiasm mounted, as we embarked upon the climb to Wolf Creek Pass, a mere twenty-minute ascent that would take us to an elevation of 10,857 feet. ... Celebrating its seventieth year, Wolf Creek epitomizes the sort of ski resort that many of us remember from childhood, the kind of mountain where lunch and lift tickets remain affordable and pretension of any kind feels out of place."
Excerpts from our Guest Books...
Everyone, if they are truly blessed, discovers one special place on earth that’s capable of reminding them why they were put here in the first place. For us, this is that place. It’s a place where peace, harmony, and relaxation all come together to form a remarkable nexus of healing. What you have lovingly created here is far more than a stunning B&B, you have fashioned a tuning fork for our souls.Thank you for creating one of the most memorable 24-hour chapters in our lives!

From the moment we walked in to see the twinkling lights in the living room and to hear the river just outside, we knew this was a special place. Seeing it the next morning in the daylight with all the flowers and hummingbirds was just as spectacular. And breakfast—what can we say?! It was a feast for the eyes and the palate! It’s been wonderful meeting you both. We’ll be back in summer and winter.

Ah-h-h-h-h-h-h … This was just what we were searching for! We refreshed our souls and our minds in our escape from the Texas heat. Thank you so much for your generous hospitality. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home and beautiful spirits.

This was our first time at a bed & breakfast. The room was absolutely breathtaking! We enjoyed being able to sit in the hot tub under a full moon. I don’t know what was more romantic—the hot tub under a full moon or the candlelight tub for two. We enjoyed everything—don’t want to go home! Thank you both for the wonderful experience.

This is an incredible place to stay. It’s so romantic. We had our wedding in front of the fireplace while the snow was falling outside. Keith and Laurie made sure every detail was taken care of. Everything was perfect. We will never forget it. Thank you for making our wedding so wonderfully unforgettable.

Precious time alone with each other was all we sought. We were blessed with so much more … Our time here has been healing and refreshing. Each day we were indulged in pampering and luxuries we are unaccustomed to. The money we saved for this special time together was not just spent—it was invested. It was an investment we will treasure always and a treasure we will share with others. You give more than a service people simply buy—you have created an atmosphere couples can use to deepen the love they already posses. Thank you.

Another wonderful stay at your home—saw the first snowfall of the season and enjoyed the golden colors, the rushing river, and a midnight thunderstorm. We loved every minute. And through it all, God blessed us with dry golf weather! See you next summer.

Our favorite B&B—and we’ve stayed in over fifty! Never fails—wonderful as always. We’ll see you both again soon.

A weekend away from home to escape the city brought us to this wonderful retreat filled with the unexpected—a calm and serene setting for the eyes, a welcoming openness to comfort the soul, a romantic peacefulness to open up the heart. As we leave here to travel home again, and as “Gulliver” would have agreed (whose room we stayed in), we appreciate all we have experienced. Thank you.
